The Kimberley Process is a government sponsored international certifiation scheme that regulates the trade in rough diamonds. Its aim is to prevent the trade in conflict diamonds, while helping to protect the legitimate trade in rough diamonds.
Generally, the Kimberley Process seeks to control the export and import of rough diamonds across international borders, requiring rough diamonds mined after January 1, 2003 to be shipped in tamper-resistant containers accompanied by "kimberley Process Certificates".
